A Romantic Vail Colorado Wedding at Donovan Pavilion for Julia & Reed

What I loved about this Vail Colorado wedding at Donovan Pavilion wasn’t the beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows, nor the wildly talented live band, nor was it the wildflower-filled reception space. I loved Julia and Reed the most. Their energies and spirits are warm and beyond welcoming; they are genuinely kind and supportive people, the kind you want in your corner, always. They feel like long-lost friends, even upon the first time meeting them. They are people you want to honor and celebrate all night long, and that’s exactly how I felt during their Vail wedding at Donovan Pavilion.

While I could say a million things about how wonderful these two are, I think I want to let their own words express the uniqueness and beauty of their souls. Below are their answers to a few questions I had about them and their relationship and I think you, too, will be able to feel how special these two lovely humans are.

Julia:

What did you think when you first saw him?

I think my jaw dropped. I thought this guy is the most handsome man I’ve ever seen in my entire life. He has the most beautiful smile and an instant warmth about him. For our first date we went for drinks, then dinner, and during dinner there was a moment where our eyes locked – it was something! By the time dinner was over, we were holding hands, we went for another drink downtown and had our first kiss that night. I knew the night of our first date that he was something very special.

When did you realize you were in love?

I felt something after the first date. I thought he was too good to be true. He is everything I could ever want in a partner. He’s first and foremost an amazing communicator, he’s kind, compassionate, funny, hardworking, generous in every way, a good and true friend to many people, relationship guy, honest, loyal, genuine, cares deeply. Again – in my mind he was too good to be true so I was definitely in self-preservation mode until a few dates later and we opened up to each other. It was solidified after our 6th date in Montana that this was most definitely LOVE and not only love but I knew he was the one.

Why did you decide to get married?

I’ve never been so sure of anything. Reed makes me so happy. He goes out of his way to make me happy and he’s always talked about ‘us’ and planned for the future as a unit. Even very early on when he thought he might be moving to Denver in our first year of dating – it was us. Coming from two very independent people – that meant and means everything. And every decision after that. Reed is everything anyone could ever want in a partner and I know whatever the future holds I want him by my side.

How has he changed your view of the world?

Reed has opened my eyes to so much. A different take on things, optimism in working towards something bigger. He is very motivating and goal oriented. He wants to get the absolute most out of life and really sees the bigger picture. Also Travel!! I have never been overseas before and he took me to Paris and Rome where we got engaged and we plan to travel this summer as well – what a dream.

Reed:

What did you think when you first saw her?

She had it all. Beauty, intelligence, charm, drive, honesty, genuine heart. There’s an old friend of mine, man in his 80s, who has a saying when things really go well and when we hit the jackpot, he would say; “well that’s a little like marrying Raquel Welch and finding out she can cook” – I thought she had it all and I hit the jackpot.

Why did you decide to get married?

This seems like such a silly question to me. We are a made-for-each-other couple. We balance each other out and compliment each other. I can’t imagine us not being together forever.

When did you realize you were in love?

In Montana the first time. Which was only a few months into our relationship. Ballsy trip right? Nah, we knew it then.

What makes your relationship tick?

We are similar in the right areas and different in the right areas. So we work from common ground and a solid foundation, but as we’ve built our relationship we’ve each added our own differing elements. Shared rock solid foundation while we allow each other to be themselves and branch out in our own directions.
