New York Bridal Fashion Week SS26
It was all a gorgeous, gorgeous blur.
New York Bridal Fashion Week—where fashion week and bridal design merge for a thrilling and innovative week of bridal goodness.
I’ll be honest and say that I really wanted to be a fashion photographer when I was young and first starting out. While I haven’t dove into the fashion world much (if at all) over my career, it’s not for lack of interest, but more so lack of knowledge; how do I enter the scene? What do I need to know to get to the top? As a young twenty-something getting a fine arts degree and living on my own, it didn’t feel like something I could achieve, in all honesty. Then comes wedding photography and it takes my creative energy for over 10 wonderful years. And for a while, it was great, but I was yearning for more.
One day sometime last year, I heard about New York Bridal Fashion Week and how a friend had attended as a photographer and was able to capture some really stunning bridal work. I was instantly intrigued. I was enthralled with the idea of going to NYBFW as a photographer, having the chance to learn about, meet, and network with bridal designers from around the world, and have the opportunity to photograph stunning wedding gowns on skilled models. It sounded like a dream.
And going to NYBFW was a dream come true.
While I didn’t have the chance to attend any big runway shows like Cinq or Galia Lahav, I did have the opportunity to meet some lovely designers, such as Sareh Nouri, Kelly Faetanini, and Jaclyn Whyte, all of whom create unique and stunning work.
My experience with NYBFW was a whirlwind, with back-to-back appointments with designers, travel time to and from showcase locations, and somehow finding time to rest and eat, it was wild. With a single missed appointment (due to the fact that we intensely needed to rest and eat) and over 15 designers whose work we photographed, I’d say that the whirlwind was 1000% worth it. And I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.
Today I want to share some of my favorite images from NYBFW with only a handful of the designers we met with. Be on the lookout for a potential part two with more work.
xxoxo,
Ashley
