One morning in Evergreen, Colorado I walked along a mountain trail while a warm, golden sunrise greeted Sarah, Andrew, and I, as we began their Elk Meadow Park engagement session.
The park, nestled on the outskirts of the town of Evergreen, was the most perfect backdrop of green coniferous trees, aged brown grasses, and blue-hued mountain peaks in the background. As we began their Elk Meadow Park engagement session during blue hour (the time of day when the sun is far below the horizon, causing the sunlight to cast a blue hue across the sky), the cool blue tones created a dreamy scenery for us to play in. While it was quite chilly at first, Sarah and Andrew romped in the grass fields as the sun slowly rose above the horizon, providing warmth for the two to enjoy and tremendously golden light for me to photograph the two in.
I will forever advocate for sunrise sessions like this to occur, especially if you love both blue hour and golden hour-type of lighting. Using both types of light for your engagement session provides a magnificent variety of lighting to photograph in, adding to the beauty, charm, and elegance of your Colorado engagement session (or wherever you want your engagement session to occur – the world if your oyster).
So if you’re planning your engagement session this year, I offer up the idea of doing your engagement session at sunrise. I promise it is certainly worth it.
